A secret society is brought low by the Simpsons family head.
Episode 2F09
Written by John Swartzwelder
Directed by Jim Reardon
Also starring: Pamela Hayden, Maggie Roswell
Special guest voice: Patrick Stewart (as Number One)
Premise: Homer becomes the leader of the legendary Stonecutters - and promptly brings them into disrepute.
Features: Arnie Pie, Lenny, Carl, Moe, Principal Skinner, Chief Wiggum, Grampa, Sideshow Mel, Krusty, Mr and Mrs van Houten, Miss Hoover, Jasper, Barney, Mr Burns, Smithers, Herman, Dr Hibbert, Kent Brockman, Groundskeeper Willie, Mayor Quimby.
Couch: The Simpsons rush in - to an Escher engraving.
Trivia:
- Americans may think that 911 is their Emergency
Services phone number, but the Stonecutters know it is really 912.
- Homer's Revenge List includes: The Bill of Rights; Grandpa; Fat-Free Lard; Gravity; Emmys; Darwin; H2-Whoa!; Billy Crystal; God; Soloflex; The Boy; Stern Lecture Plumbing and Econo-Save.
- Grampa Simpson is a member of The Elks; The Masons; The Communists; The Gay and Lesbian Alliance (of which he is President) and, of course, The Stonecutters.
Homage: Homer emerges in his finery exactly like The Last Emperor (Bernardo Bertolucci, 1987).
Song: We Do sung by The Stonecutters.
Notes: A brilliant crack at freemasonry, with all the secret signs, one-upmanship, rituals and unusual membership rules. Add to this Patrick Stewart's amazing voice and you have one of the better episodes of the series. The homage to The Last Emperor is especially good.
