The Simpsons | Episode Guide | Season Six
Lisa's Wedding

Lisa finds her future imperfect.

Episode 2F15
Written by Greg Daniels
Directed by Jim Reardon
Also starring: Doris Grau, Pamela Hayden, Maggie Roswell
Special guest voice: Mandy Patinkin (as Hugh Parkfield)

Premise: Lisa visits a fortune teller who spins her a story set in the strange world of 2010, when she is destined to fall in love with a young English aristocrat.

Features: Mr Burns, Smithers, Patty, Selma, Principal Skinner, Ms Krabappel, Miss Hoover, Lunchlady Doris, Milhouse, Martin Prince, Moe, Chief Wiggum, Kent Brockman, Ned Flanders, Rev. Lovejoy, Dr Hibbert, Krusty, Mayor Quimby, Troy McClure, Lenny, Carl, Nelson, Dr John Frink.

Couch: The springs in the sofa bounce the Simpsons into the ceiling.

Trivia:

  • The Fortune Teller shows Lisa two cards - Death, indicating change, and - horror of horrors - The Happy Squirrel!
  • In 2010, Lisa and Hugh are studying at the Dr and Mrs Dre Hall at Eastern Uni.
  • Springfield's water supply contains three-eyed fish and a fish with the head of a cow.
  • Lisa and Hugh are Jim Carrey fans, visiting a film fair where they show forty of his films including The Mask and Ace Ventura VI.
  • The Rolling Stones have recently toured with their Steel Wheelchair Tour 2010, and Lisa Bart now works for the Down With Buildings Demolition Co and has been married twice.
  • Kent Brockman offers a list of arrested celebrities. These are: The Baldwin Brothers Gang; Dr Brad Pitt; John John John Kennedy; George Burns; Infamous Amos' Grandson and Sam; The Artist Formerly Known as (symbol); Tim Allen Jnr; Senator and Mrs Dracula; The Artist Formerly Known as Buddy Hackett; Madonnabots Series K; Sideshow Ralph Wiggum; Martha Hitler and Johnny Neutrino.
  • Heather Locklear remains at large.
  • Kent's show is on CNNBCBS, a division of ABC.
  • The wedding invitation to Lisa's wedding reads: Mr and Mrs Homer J. Simpson request the pleasure of your company at the marriage of their daughter Lisa Marie to Hugh St. John Alastair Parkfield at the Springfield Meadow. Sunday One PM August 1, 2010.

Homage: Four Weddings and a Funeral (Mike Newell, 1994) provides Hugh's name. The romance in Love Story (Arthur Hiller, 1970) begins, as here, with a dispute over a book in a college library. There are also lots of incidental references - sound-effects and the like - to Star Trek.

Notes: The whole scenario of this episode places it well within the top five all-time greats as we see not only the world of tomorrow but how the Simpsons cope with it. Presumably both Grampa Simpson and Jackie Bouvier are no longer with us, but just about everyone else makes it to the wedding.
