The Simpsons do Dallas.
Episode 2F16
Written by Bill Oakley and Josh Weinstein
Directed by Jeffrey Lynch
Also starring: Doris Grau, Pamela Hayden, Maggie Roswell
Special guest voice: Tito Puente (as himself)
Premise: Springfield Elementary strikes it rich. But when Mr Burns steals the school's wealth to create a revolutionary new device - a screen to block out the sun's rays - he encourages the wrath of a number of Springfield's citizens. A very large number.
Features: Principal Skinner, Groundskeeper Willie, Ms Krabappel, Nelson, Milhouse, Ralph Wiggum, Miss Hoover, Mr Burns, Smithers, Superintendent Chalmers, Lenny, Carl, Lunchlady Doris, Otto, Mr Largo, Ned Flanders, Moe, Barney, the two Barflies, Grampa, Quimby, Dr Hibbert, Captain MacAllister, Sideshow Mel, Krusty, Apu, Snake, Jimbo, Selma, Chief Wiggum.
Couch: The Simpsons rush about the living room on tiptoes - with sinister fixed grins. They didn't do it.
Homage: The principal influence is Who Shot J.R.?, the cliffhanger episode of the 1980 season of Dallas. Just before he's shot, Mr Burns is paraphrasing Simon and Garfunkel's 59th Bridge Street Song.
Notes: A superb end to the season - and what's more, it's a genuine whodunnit. There's no cheating - all the clues are there.
