The Simpsons | Episode Guide | Season Six
Homer: Bad Man

Homer discovers that sweets can be very bad for your reputation.

Episode 2F06
Written by Greg Daniels Directed by Jeff Lynch
Also starring: Pamela Hayden, Maggie Roswell, Tress MacNeille
Special guest voice: Dennis Franz (as 'Homer Simpson')

Premise: Homer and Marge visit a candy trade fair where Homer steals the unique Gummi di Milo. This becomes attached to the butt of the kids' baby-sitter and when Homer pulls it off, she accuses him of sexual molestation and Homer becomes public enemy number one.

Features: Apu, Dr John Frink, Smithers, Kent Brockman, Moe, Barney, Lenny, Dr Hibbert, Bumblebee Man, Grampa, Groundskeeper Willie.

Couch: The sofa and room zoom into the distance, pursued by the Simpsons.

Trivia:

  • Other Gummi treats include Gummi Cows' Heads and Gummi Jaw Breakers.
  • Ashley bribes Bart with the video game cartridge 'Disembowler IV'.
  • The other apologies on the Rock Bottom Correction List are:
    • People's Choice Award is America's Greatest Honor;
    • Styrofoam is not made from kittens;
    • The UFO was a paper plate;
    • The nerds on the internet are not geeks;
    • The word 'cheese' is not funny in and of itself;
    • The older Flanders boy is Todd not Rod;
    • Lyndon Johnson didn't provide the voice of Yosemite Sam;
    • If you are reading this, you have no life;
    • Roy Rogers was not buried inside his horse;
    • The other UFO was an upside-down salad spinner;
    • Our universities are not hotbeds of anything;
    • Mr Dershowitz did not literally have four eyes;
    • Our viewers are not pathetic sexless food tubes;
    • Audrey Hepburn never weighed 400 pounds;

    • Quayle is familiar with common bathroom procedures;
    • Bart is bad to the bone;
    • Godfry Jones' wife is cheating on him;

    • The 'bug' on your TV screen can see into your home;
    • Everyone on TV is better than you;
    • The people who are writing this have no life.

Homage: Homer deals with the guards at the Candy Convention in an explosive fashion reminiscent of Die Hard (John McTieman, 1988). Gentle Ben comes from the US sixties kids' show of the same name. Kent Brockman's reference to 'the Simpson estate' is reminiscent of the news coverage of O.J. Simpson's flight from the police after the death of his wife Nicole and Ronald Goldman.

Song: Under the Sea sung by the Simpsons.

Notes: Thankfully we, unlike his own family, know Homer is wholly innocent, but nevertheless, he does ask for it. And Rock Bottom is such a good parody of those oh-so-well-meaning expos programmes. Surprisingly, it's not one of Kent Brockman's - he's relegated to helicopter duty this show. Dennis Franz is great as bad Homer.
