SHIPBUILDING

Steve Revely Age 45
I worked as a shipwright at Smith Dock South Bank Middlesbrough 1975-1986 and loved my job. I worked on the QE2 refit after the falklands war and then worked on the trident build programme in Barrow. Its such a shame we dont have the scale of work like we used to,young men would love the environment to work in.

Ian Campbell
I was 16yrs old serving an apprenticeship as a shipwright,Scotts Greenock 1971.We had a korean man from Hyundai, who,s job was to follow us all over and take notes. So we helped them put us out of business.I survived 20yrs, before calling it quits.I wish I had my hearing back.

R S Jackson
Why have we lost all are good skilled men and women. We were the best, not greedy like now - just used to turn out qualty work all the time in every trade but now nobody cares as long as there is money in it.
