STEEL

david bell
i like the way consett is now but it isn't the same with the steel works gone.

Joanne Marshall
When I was about 4 years old, the Consett Steel Works were pulled down in front of me. I remember sitting on a hill with my Dad, where he, and my Grandfather had worked for many years watching the towers being blown up. Unfortunately the lack of employment after this time meant that we had to move, and move we did to the other side of the world, Melbourne, Australia. And even though I have lived my life a long way away from the fields that were Consett Steel Works, where many of my family worked, I return as often as I can, and am still saddened that we had to leave. Consett will always be my home.
