To the lighthouse
© Marjolaine Ryley
"I chose this image, because I liked the feeling of being inside the Fresnel lens at the top of a lighthouse, cocooned in its red glow. I have always loved lighthouses and they feature strongly in the work of one of my favourite artists Tacita Dean as well as in a favourite book by Virginia Woolf ,To the Lighthouse. The combination of the industrial structure, an amazing piece of engineering, along with the melancholy and poetic nature of the lighthouse interested me. Souter Lighthouse is also said to be haunted, a thought I had in mind as I climbed inside the lens." (Marjolaine Ryley)
