The Queen's Jubilee Carriage

The Silver Jubilee of 1977

If you weren't a royalist by 1977 you certainly became one for the Silver Jubilee. The 25th anniversary of the Queen's Coronation was the perfect excuse to party, with soaring temperatures getting everyone ready for some fun in the sun.

Streets were lined with streamers, picnic tables and bunting. Silver Jubilee mugs, stamps and plates were currency in every school playground.

The Queen embarked on a victory tour, Prince Charles got 'down with the kids' and took up skateboarding, and the Sex Pistols sang 'God Save the Queen', with 'slightly' amended lyrics.

We enjoyed simple pleasures back in those days.

Events: Silver Jubilee | Royal Wedding | Queen Mother's 100th | Devon Loch at the Grand National
