Royals In Uniform

Although the Royal Family have all been awarded ranks in the defence forces, it is clear that some seem more suited to military life than others.

Prince's Charles and Andrew must have made mummy and daddy proud by both showing their dedication to the military, with Prince Charles currently holding the rank of Rear-Admiral in the Royal Navy, Major-General in the Army and Air Vice-Marshal in the Royal Air Force. Andrew, the Duke of York, served in the Royal Navy for 22 years where he saw active service in the Falklands. He was awarded the rank of Commander in 1999.

In contrast, their brother Edward was just not cut out for that rough and tumble. He resigned from his position as Second Lieutenant of the Royal Marines in 1987 after just four years. Whether he got to keep his fatigues is not known.
