The Kinks

The Kinks

The Kinks, consisting of Ray and Dave Davies, Pete Quaife and Mick Avory, were arguably one of the four great bands of the British Invasion.

Originally known as the Ravens, the Kinks formed at the end of 1963. Their first single 'Long Tall Sally' failed to sell, but did at least give its name to a chain of shops selling clothes for big women.

The Kinks made it big though with their third single 'You Really Got Me' which rocketed to the number 1 spot, boosted by an appearance on the Ready Steady Go show.

After that the hits flowed through the Sixties with All Day and All of the Night, Tired of Waiting for You, Dedicated Follower of Fashion, Waterloo Sunset and their final top ten hit, Lola, in 1970.
