Cilla Black

Cilla Black had her only two No1's in 1964: 'Anyone Who Had a Heart' and 'You're My World'.

The redheaded scouser released several singles penned by pals John Lennon and Paul McCartney, including 'Love Of The Loved' and 'It's For You'.

She also shared the same manager, Brian Epstein, producer George Martin, and recorded at Abbey Road.

By the end of 1964, Cilla had switched to the big screen, making a cameo appearance in Gerry & the Pacemakers' movie 'Ferry Cross the Mersey'.

A bonus bit of trivia for you - in 1964 Singles cost around 6s 5d (32p) and LPs cost £1-15s-0d (£1.75p).

Hear Cilla talk about how she got started on Desert Island Discs.
