Star Wars

Shot on a shoestring with a cast of unknowns, this sci-fi epic has become one of the most successful movies of all time.

It made stars of Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and (for a while) Mark Hamill, introduced a whole new generation of special effects to the cinema, and spawned a range of spin-off toys that set a trend for merchandising which continues to this day.

Star Wars was a 'spiritual' action flick, pitting the forces of evil - represented by metal cased overlord Darth Vader - against the forces of good - Shakespearean actor the late Alec Guinness in a mouldy robe. Three sequels have been made and more are in the pipeline.
