Sigouney Weaver

Alien

In space no-one can hear you scream but in the cinema this horror flick caused a heck of a lot of screaming.

Best remembered for the scene in which John Hurt graphically regrets something he ate, Alien became the template for practically every sci-fi adventure for the next two decades.

A triumph for feminism, it featured tough girl Sigourney Weaver as the savvy broad who sees off a monster which is slaughtering her shipmates on board their claustrophobic mining vessel.
