It's hard to believe, but there was a time when the only thing
on TV before lunchtime was the test card and an occasional schools
programme.
All that changed when the BBC's Breakfast Time was rolled out nationwide
on January 17th 1983, closely followed by ITV's Good Morning Britain.
The shows' presenters wore bright, chunky knitted sweaters and
were all unnervingly cheerful for so early in the morning. One of
them was a rat called Roland.
