Breakfast TV

It's hard to believe, but there was a time when the only thing on TV before lunchtime was the test card and an occasional schools programme.

All that changed when the BBC's Breakfast Time was rolled out nationwide on January 17th 1983, closely followed by ITV's Good Morning Britain.

The shows' presenters wore bright, chunky knitted sweaters and were all unnervingly cheerful for so early in the morning. One of them was a rat called Roland.
