Rowan Atkinson and Richard Curtis's comic tale of plotting and
revenge in the dark ages launched a saga that would continue for
over a decade.
The first series was very different from those that followed, when
comic Ben Elton took over writing duties from Atkinson.
Perhaps the most obvious difference from later series was that, in Blackadder I, Edmund Blackadder was utterly
stupid (though still scheming) and his servant Baldrick was actually
quite cunning (though he still stank).
