When the '80s roller disco phase ended, parents thought they would
be bathing less grazed knees but it was not to be.
Towards the end of the '80s, Inline Skates (Rollerblade is a registered
trademark of Rollerblade Inc.) were being marketed as fitness equipment
in America and the trend soon caught on. Not just with children
but also with young professionals who wanted a nifty way to get
to work.
Inline skates are much easier to manipulate than the traditional
roller skates as they have one line of wheels rather than two parallel
rows.
They were also used in roller hockey and many games were played in the streets and playgrounds in Europe and America.
