Homer discovers there's no place like home.
Episode 3F23
Written by John Swartzwelder
Directed by Mike Anderson
Also starring: Albert Brooks (as Hank Scorpio), Pamela Hayden, Tress MacNeille
Premise: Offered a job by Globex, the Simpsons move to Cyprus Creek. But the nuclear plant Homer is now working for hides a deadly secret - its boss is none other than East Coast super villain Hank Scorpio - not that Homer notices.
Features: Smithers, Otto, Apu, Ned Flanders, Rev. Lovejoy, Moe, Barney, Bumblebee Man, Kent Brockman, Krusty, Sideshow Mel, Captain McAllister, Android's Dungeon Guy, Mayor Quimby, Mr Burns, Dr Nick Riviera, Dr Hibbert, Snake, Chief Wiggum, Principal Skinner, Mrs Skinner, Chalmers, Groundskeeper Willie, Milhouse, Richard, Lewis, Martin Prince, Nelson.
Couch: The family parachute on to the sofa.
Homage: Loads of James Bond movies, but most obviously You Only Live Twice, A View to a Kill and a whole sequence from Goldfinger - in which Homer's stupidity actually kills Sean Connery's Bond.
Good gags: Without a doubt, one of the all-time best sight gags is Lisa's Disney-esque skipping through the forest, saying hello to Mr Chipmunk and Mrs Owl, only to have the owl kill the chipmunk as soon as her back is turned. And look out for Apu's heartfelt goodbye.
Song: The episode plays out with the superb pseudo-Bond theme Scorpio.
Notes: A tremendous episode, with some really good moments, most of them involving Bart, Lisa and Marge's loathing for Cyprus Creek. The remedial kids are fab (especially Warren) and Lisa's second chipmunk encounter is inspired. Scorpio is a good character, especially his Christopher Walken-esque killing spree.
