The Simpsons | Episode Guide | Season Eight
The Homer They Fall

Moe arranges a bungle of a rumble.

Episode 4F03
Written by Jonathan Collier
Directed by Mark Kirkland
Also starring: Paul Winfield (as Lucious Sweet), Michael Buffer (as himself), Phil Hartman (as Lionel Hutz)

Premise: When Dr Hibbert discovers that Homer has an abnormally thick skull, Moe decides that Homer should become a boxer. Then Dreaderick Tatum gets out of jail and Homer becomes his World Heavyweight opponent - much to Marge's alarm.

Features: Android's Dungeon Guy, Milhouse, Lewis, Martin Prince, Wendell, Richard, Dolph, Keamey, Jimbo Jones, Janey, Moe, Grampa, Dr Hibbert, Barney, Lenny, Snake, Carl, Jasper, Rainer Wolfcastle, Kent Brockman, Krusty, Dr Nick, Patty, Selma, Dr John Frink, Mr Burns, Smithers.

Couch: The Western Simpsons rush in - and the sofa takes off like a wild bucking bronco.

Trivia:

  • On the wall in Moe's secret HQ - the ladies' washroom - are posters of his past fights including a couple of Simpsons production team in-jokes - Oakley, Kirkland and Silverman.

Homage: The Rocky movies provide much of the episode's imagery. The closing song, People Who Need People, was originally sung by Barbra Streisand in 1968. The layout of the comics store resembles the interior control panel of the TARDIS from British SF series Doctor Who.

Moe's secrets: He was a boxing manager before he became a bartender.

Notes: A pastiche on Mike Tyson's return to the boxing circuit after his time in jail, and his conversion to Christianity. Sadly, this makes for the dullest, one-joke episode of the entire series.
