No. 2 - The Wrath of Kahn. 1982
A great, satisfying success after the disappointment of the Motion
Picture, Star Trek II restores the character-driven heart to Star Trek.
The sequel to the original series episode Space Seed sees Ricardo
Montalban reprise his role as Khan, obsessed with killing Admiral James
T Kirk. Spock's sacrifice at the end of the film makes for a uniquely
powerful ending (although inviting Scotty to play the bagpipes at the
funeral was perhaps ill-advised). Watch out too for the surreal sequence
early on where Khan inserts a large slug into an enormous plastic
replica of Chekhov's ear.
