Teach and Learn: Journalism

Landscape with clouds (BBC)

Local environmental questionnaire:
Teacher’s copy

Q:What country do you live in?
    A: UK

Q:What part of the UK do you live in?
A: London

Q: What’s the weather like?
A: It’s mixed, sometimes rainy sometimes sunny. We have mild winters and warm summers. We normally get some snow in the winter, but it melts after a day or two. There can be long hot spells in the summer, but it’s more normal for us to have a few days sunshine and then a few days rain.

Q:What is the population of your country?
A: About 60 million

Q: How many people are there in your school?
A: About 350 pupils and 30 staff

Q: Do you have any problems with your local environment?
A: We have a problem with air pollution, there are lots of cars and they pump out loads of fumes. Also people produce a lot of rubbish and we are running out of landfill sites to put it in. We have a problem with drought because although we get a lot of water as rain we use even more than we get. So much water is wasted that special rules have been brought in to stop people using hosepipes.
