Teach and Learn: Geography

Teach and Learn: Geography

Develop Geography projects in partnership with your twin school.

Here are some useful links:

Aduna- development education sessions on identity, heritage, migration and globalisation orientated around African performing and visual arts (drumming, storytelling, dance, textiles, film etc).  Suitable for those at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.

Rafi.ki
A large online community of schools. Rafi.ki contains a number of pre-prepared projects covering the Geography Syllabus. Each includes lesson plans, videos, pictures, expansion activities and often celebrity interviews. Suitable for ages 11-16.

Geographical Association

Save the Children- its School Link project provides resources for Primary Schools to find out more about life in schools in rural China and Pakistan – the complete resource for teaching the QCA unit 10 ‘A Village Study’.

Title: London to South Africa
Learning Objective: Study of a LEDC and contrast with UK
Age range: Over 11, KS3

School: Holloway, London
Teacher: Richard Cohen
Twinned with: St Cuthberts Senior Secondary School, Tsolo District, South Africa

What you need: ICT network room

The Idea: Students work through the materials (see South Africa example pdf  ) at their own speed under the guidance of a teacher and where possible learning mentors or teaching assistants.

Benefits: This activity is part of a wider unit of work for our Year 7 students in Geography in which they will learn about South Africa. We hope to encourage them through this project to get interested in the twinning with the school in South Africa and to start up the correspondence

Issues: Need for computers on a network though students could also work through this as an independent, personal activity though they do need help from a teacher.
