Click for More Pictures In 1978, to coincide with Simon Groom joining the show, a golden retriever puppy was chosen to join the team. Making her debut at just seven weeks old, the little pup quickly became a favourite with the audience, and by popular demand was named, rather imaginatively, Goldie.

As with all the dogs Goldie's training was shown on screen and like Petra before her, a camera crew kept an eye on her progress during her pregnancy. Goldie's first litter was born on 16th May 1981, and once again the puppies' names were chosen by viewers. The boys were named Sandy, Buster, Henry and Prince, and the girl was called Lady Diana.

Prince was chosen by the team to be a potential Guide Dog, and the show followed his training alongside Peter Duncan until he qualified.

Goldie's second litter was born on 3rd February 1986. Honey, Snowy, Bonzo, Amber, Fergie and Bruno all became qualified Guide Dogs, and Bonnie joined the show when Goldie retired.

Goldie retired from Blue Peter in the Summer of 1986, completing a service of eight years. She spent the rest of her days on Simon Groom's parents' farm.
