Like Tina Heath, Sarah Green and Peter Duncan before her, Yvette was a children's television star, and appeared as Sandy Shelton in two series of Seaview, a comedy set in a seaside bed and breakfast.

In 1985 Yvette also appeared in an episode of the popular BBC police drama Juliet Bravo, for some reason billed as Evette Fielding. But it was her role in Seaview that brought Yvette to the attention of the Blue Peter production team, and at her second attempt and only 18 and a half, Yvette replaced Sarah Greene as the show's youngest presenter.

In a matter of weeks Yvette found herself in at the deep-end, training with the Moscow State Circus for an acrobatics display. Due to Mark Curry's refusal to look after the new Blue Peter dog, Yvette also found herself partnered with Bonnie - the first time a female presenter was shown training and bathing a dog and telling it to get down.

Yvette left after five years in June 1992 and went on to present the ITV Saturday show What's Up Doc? followed by Disney Adventures in 1995.

Yvette still works as a presenter and has hosted the live show City Hospital for BBC1 and Dear Denise, an advice show with agony aunt Denise Robertson.

In 2002 Yvette began presenting Most Haunted, Living TV's show which investigates haunted locations, using psychic mediums and scientific equipment. The show has proved popular with viewers wanting to know if ghosts do exist in locations such as the London Underground.
