RealMedia: Memories of Come Outside

Wendy Richard

Yes, she of EastEnders had a comedy No.1 hit with Mike Sarne in June 1962.

One of the first novelty hits in the history of the charts, it was the No.1 Come Outside, and featured Wendy saying exciting things like 'Nah, it's cold'and 'Ooh, you go off people'.

Wendy went on to appear as a guest star in the cult TV show The Likely Lads and one of the main characters in Are You Being Served?, before hitting the streets of Walford.

Mike's attempts to repeat his success using the same cockney novelty formula - with Bird You Know I Love Ya and Don't Phone Me I'll Phone You - were less successful.

He still managed to squeeze four chart appearances from it though, before fading from the limelight.
