Spiderman

Spiderman - The Comic

Created by the legendary writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko, Spider-Man was intended to be 'the super hero who could be you.'

The first Spidey story was intended as an experiment. A comic called Amazing Fantasy was about to be cancelled because of faltering sales, so the man in the red suit was given a trial outing, basically because no-one cared what went in the mag.

Basicaly, the story goes that wimpy Peter Parker is bitten by a radioactive spider and acquires the agility and proportionate strength of an arachnid.

Disguised as Spider-Man, he becomes a professional wrestler and ignores the chance to stop a fleeing thief.

When the same criminal later robs and kills his uncle, Parker becomes a superhero crimefighter, realising: 'With great Power there must also come - great responsibility!'

There's always a downside, isn't there?
