The story of the depression era bank robbers Bonnie
Parker and Clyde Barrow had been filmed before - in 1949 - as Gun
Crazy.
But Bonnie and Clyde broke the mould by first showing
the couple as likeable, almost normal people, who happened to riddle
the population with bullets.
The couple's death, in a hail of lead, permanently
changed the way movies depicted violence. The film is credited (or
charged, depending on your viewpoint) with provoking countless ordinary
folk to become violent heroes as in 'Thelma and Louise' and Natural
Born Killers'.
Bonnie and Clyde received ten Academy Award nominations
and won two of the coveted golden statues.
