Often dubbed the Queen of Pop, Madonna broke into mainstream UK pop music in 1984 with her hit song Holiday.
A master (or mistress?) at reinventing her image, she has become an icon
of female pop. At school she excelled at dance and drama and later
went to New York to study dance.
Her raunchy costumes and provocative dance routines captivated audiences and when Like A Virgin was released her reputation as a musical maverick was carved in stone.
Like A Virgin caused a stir in 1984 - nothing as daring had been heard before. The video was full of contradictions: she wore a white wedding dress but the dancing gave the impression she was anything but innocent.
