Why were the non-human characters always so popular?

Picture Well, Data I figure, is loved by the fans because he - desires to understand the human condition so much, and I think he, as a result, expresses the human condition, beautifully.

I think it�s the actors that the fans fall in love with. Certainly Marina, who plays a Betazoid, is a wonderful attractive, talented, sexy actress, and that makes, therefore, the Betazoids all the above. I think it�s in the actor.
