Z Cars (1962)

The clip should play automatically after a few seconds. If not, click here.

Z-Cars was one of the longest running crime shows ever, at 14 series and 667 episodes. It was grittily realistic for its time, and the Guardian reported that an educational psychologist felt its presentation of 'aberrations' such as a criminal's implied seduction of his sister-in-law could cause a 'large number of sexual difficulties' in teenagers.

Z-Cars was created by Troy Kennedy-Martin, who went on to create Edge of Darkness.
