Sand, sand ... and sand!

Lawrence of Arabia

One of the great desert dramas, this epic tale of WW1 hero TE Lawrence was a smash hit, critically and financially in 1962.

Almost all movement in the film goes from left to right and director David Lean said he did this to emphasise that the film was a journey.

Pretentious or what!

Trivia anoraks may be interested to know that throughout filming, Peter O'Toole referred to co-star Omar Sharif as Fred - stating that 'no one in the world is called Omar Sharif'.
