Won't Get Fooled Again
Teleplay by Richard Manning
Directed by Rowan Woods

PLOT
Crichton finds himself back on Earth, recovering from his Farscape 'accident'. He becomes very suspicious when his doctor looks like Aeryn.

REVIEW
Good to have Farscape back after this short break, and especially on a return to form after a few below par episodes. While this story was so similar to the first season's 'A Human Reaction' that it should have been poor, it was exceptional.

Acknowledging that Crichton had been through an illusion of going home before, the show avoided clich by having him fighting from the start. He was sarcastic and suspicious in the face of a very good performance from his Earth family and friends.

The journey he took descending from certainty to doubt and madness was immensely satisfying, more so than the standard route to an heroic "I deny you exist!"

Crichton's certainty matched our own, and yet you could not see which way the story would turn. It became a race, a gambol, even a kind of fall through the thriller. Farscape has rarely been this exciting and, frankly, this funny.

DID YOU NOTICE?

  • The title and Crichton's slamming open the ladies' toilet is a reference to the first season episode 'A Human Reaction', which had a similar premise and was made by the same director.

  • Crichton's initial idea this really was an illusion was when his 'mother' mentioned that he has killed. He told her she couldn't know that, but under this reality he had killed Rygel and it is possible.

  • Crichton makes references to 20th Century Earth culture. Cannily referencing 'Harvey', 'It's a Wonderful Life' and 'The Wizard of Oz'. Crais's policeman makes a second reference to Oz his dog is called Toto.

  • This is the first Farscape episode without Moya.
