LIARS, GUNS AND MONEY PART 2
Teleplay by Naren Shankar
Directed by Catherine Millar
PLOT
The crew has successfully stolen enough money to buy D'Argo's son out of slavery. Crichton believes he has defeated Scorpius, though he may be mistaken.
REVIEW
The middle episode of a story line is always going to be plot-heavy, but it's also the one that introduces the most jeopardy in the tale. This did manage to introduce problems, especially the very well done scuttling infestation.
The flames through Moya were spectacular, too, accounting for the longer than usual list of CGI staff on the credits.
On the weaker side, D'Argo's vision of his son externalised his conflict over whether to sacrifice Crichton when it was already plain that was the problem.
There was a lot of similar exposition and a lot of luck for the crew, but it was very clever how Crichton gave himself up. That certainly was the standard heroic thing to do, but it was much more satisfying as it as much about himself as D'Argo .
DID YOU NOTICE?
D'Argo's vision of his son was remarkably accurate since he hadn't seen the lad for very many years.
How very fortunate for the budget that Aeryn and Crichton each only found one member of each race. Even D'Argo and Rygel each only two people each.
When Aeryn asks why Crichton is so sure Scorpius will have gone back to the depository, he answers that he knows how Scorpy thinks. The correct answer is surely that the set was too expensive not to re-use.
Even if Scorpius was able to track Stark's signal during the break in, as said here, how could that possibly give him access to where D'Argo's son was?
