Yves St Laurent
VIDEO CLIP:
RealMedia: Wayne Hemingway recalls the impact of Yves

Yves St Laurent Set Up

St Laurent was the first designer to effectively mix orange with pink and red, violet with yellow and black with brown - presumably not all at the same time, as the result would always be a less than original muddy grey.

Algerian born St Laurent is most famous for what in his day would have been considered outrageous gender-bending outfits, such as the trouser suit and dinner jacket for women.

St Laurent became famous for his designs at the Dior fashion house when he became the chief designer after Christian Dior died in the 50s. In 1961 he split from Dior and in January showed his first collection under his own name.
