Cleopatra

Cleopatra

The film to bring the phrase 'big budget' into reality. When it was made Cleopatra reputedly cost around $40m to make that's about $250m in today's money more than Titanic cost in the 90's.

It's a film of excess, with lavish sets and highly paid actors - namely Elizabeth Taylor!

The critics downed it and tickets sales were disappointing but the public has retained a fascination with this 4 hour epic. Is it Liz dressed up in expensive frocks or perhaps it's Richard Burton dressed up in expensive frocks that we crave to see?

Fans of the St Trinian's films may spot 'Flash Harry' namely George Cole playing the role as Flavius, long before his dodgy dealings in Minder.
