David Bowie

David Bowie became the biggest seller since the Beatles after shifting eight million records in Britain.

He celebrated by releasing one of the worst singles of all time - The Laughing Gnome - in September. It reached number six.

Another big seller was Concert for Bangladesh which won Album of the Year. It was a charity event with George Harrison, Ravi Shankar, Bob Dylan, Leon Russell, Ringo Starr, Billy Preston, Eric Clapton and Klaus Voormann.
