RealMedia: The Prisoner

The Prisoner

Number 6 (Patrick McGoohan), a former secret agent, is kidnapped and kept in the mysterious Village - a sinister location which vaguely resembles Butlins.

Quite understandably, Number 6 wishes to escape but somehow always is recaptured and interrogated over why he resigned from his spy position. He won't crack... or will he?

The interior scenes were filmed at Borehamwood Studio, the same place as the classic 2001: A Space Odyssey was made. The exteriors were shot in the picturesque Welsh village of Portmeirion. So the camera never lies?

Due to the suspected hidden meanings in the scripts, universities have held courses about the show and some students have even written theses on the subject.

Writer and star Patrick McGoohan has stated that there were no hidden meanings in the series and that if anyone has figured out the meaning of it, he would appreciate an explanation. But then he would say that, wouldn't he?
