Pacman

Pacman was the idea of Japanese game designer Toru Iwatani, and was inspired by a pizza with a slice missing.

It was orginally named 'Puck-Man' by Japanese games company Namco but they realised that graffiti might not do their advertising any good!

The game was based on a classic Japanese tale about a creature that protected children from scary monsters by eating them. In the game, four ghosts chase Pacman around a maze and he eats little dots. If the Pacman eats a power pellet it allows the hunter to become the hunted as the ghosts turn blue and scatter to all parts of the maze.

There was of course a plethora of merchandise including T-shirts, lunch boxes and bags.
