Dungeons and Dragons

D & D was a fantasy game that could be enjoyed by the whole family, but more often than not was the reserve of intellectual school boys.

Each player took on the personality of their character, perhaps a knight in shining armour or a medieval monk. The aim was to compete or cooperate with each other to complete a task set by the Dungeon Master.

Typical tasks included rescuing beautiful princesses or finding holy grails. Serious players became really obsessed and games could go on for hours, days or even months.

Parents were even warned that their sons were getting involved in a dangerous cult - but it was really just a silly game.
