Acid House Raves

1988 was the Summer Of Love and forbidden raves sprang up in disused warehouses up and down the country. The Acid sound had begun the previous year with bands such as 808 State and KLF.

Clubbers wanted secret venues to dance and take ecstacy. There was a constant dilemma for rave promoters: they wanted to give plenty of warning to potential clubbers but also needed to release the information as late as possible so the police couldn't get their first and stop the rave happening.

The police also had a dilemma: ravers were happy, dancing peacefully and there was no violence, but raves were illegal and arrests had to be made.
