Snow boarding actually derives from surfing and skateboarding - not skiing. Like surfers, snowboarders are usually younger (23 on average) and live a tribal existence, travelling from country to country in search of the best snow. Ridden like a skateboard, it looked like a short, fat ski without metal edges or bindings.

One of the coolest things about Snowboards was that you could do tricks, flinging yourself into the air in 1080° spins, or doing oddly-named grabs like 'Flying Squirrels'.
