Looking good in 1991 meant dressing like you'd found a bin bag in a skip containing the rejects from a jumble sale and decided to wear all the contents at the same time!
People were still wearing the 'grunge' look but they were now called
slovenly and dirty. The grunge look for boys consisted of a pair
of ripped jeans and a checked shirt. For girls, feminine babydoll
dresses were combined with heavy industrial style boots like DocMartens.
The look became so common that the following year Drew Barrymore got married wearing a white slip dress and combat boots.
