This was the confidently surreal TV debut of comedians Vic Reeves
and Bob Mortimer. First screened on Channel 4 in 1990, it marked
a resurgence of a brand of absurd cabaret humour long obscured by
satirical stand up.
Soon everyone was shouting Vic and Bob's catchphrases 'You wouldn't let it lie!' and 'What's on the end of the stick, Vic?' - not quite as funny when said by the least imaginative, most irritating person in the office.
In 1991 Vic Reeves and The Wonderstuff had a number 1 hit with Dizzy, a version of a 1969 hit by Buddy Holly-esque popster Tommy Roe.
