A thirst for Jane Austen began in 1995 and was quenched by a
plethora of Austen productions. Most famously, Pride and Prejudice
and Sense and Sensibility.
Jane Austen's classic Pride and Prejudice was made for the BBC
as a four-and-a-half hour mini-series making a star of Colin Firth
as Mr D'Arcy.
Sense and Sensibility was made as a feature film for the
big screen.
Also in 1995 came another BBC/Jane Austen production, Persuasion,
based on Austen's final novel, although this was never as
popular as the other two.
The US produced a modern day version of Jane Austen's book Emma
called Clueless, which starred Alicia Silverstone.
