RealMedia: A brief history of Take That

Take That

Take That formed in Manchester and nearly all members of the group had some claim to fame before they trod in the footsteps of The Beatles' legacy of mass popularity.

Singer-songwriter Gary Barlow spent his childhood backing Ken Dodd shows on the organ! Mark Owen went through trials for Manchester United and Jason Orange was a breakdancer. Robbie Williams was brought up amongst performers and before joining Take That had a small role in Channel 4's Brookside.

Their chart breakthough came in the summer of 1992 with a cover of Tavares' It Only Takes A Minute. Their popularity was soon well and truly set in stone and they received 7 trophies at the Smash Hits Poll Winners Party Awards in December.
