Madonna

Madonna

At the beginning of the year Madonna returned to the charts with 'This Used To Be Me Playground' which not only gave her a 10th US No. 1 but also meant she had more UK top hits than the Beatles. The single featured in the film 'A League Of Their Own' in which Madonna also had a cameo role.

She continued her multimedia sensation later in the year by releasing a controversial photo book simply called 'Sex'. It was a steel-bound, soft core pornographic book that featured erotic pictures of herself, supermodels, and other celebrities including Isabella Rossellini and Vanilla Ice.

The book received lots of disapproving publicity and negative reviews but it didn't stop accompanying album 'Erotica' selling over 2 million copies.
