RealMedia: Blobby dolls

Mr Blobby dolls

Was he a symbol of post-modern irony, or was he just an annoying fat blob?

Born out of Noel Edmonds' House Party, where he ambushed C-list celebrities for Noel's 'Gotcha' game, Blobby was everywhere in 1993.

He had a No.1 single, starred in his own weekly TV slot, and made millions out of numerous merchandising opportunities.

One of these was an irritating pink doll. Most people who bought one probably hoped that they could stick pins in it and Voodoo Blobby.

He hasn't been seen for several years, so maybe it worked.
