Goody-goody Britney fought it out with Gogo-bimbo Christina as
both teen sensations released their debut singles.
It wasn't quite Oasis vs Blur, but the nation remained split as
to whether it should support and finance Christina's worrying lipstick
habit by buying Genie in a Bottle, or help Britney afford a boob
job by purchasing Baby, One More Time.
In the end both songs made the top spot, thanks to a legion of
teenage girls and dirty old men.
