Caron Keating dies

Former Blue Peter presenter Caron Keating has died of cancer.

After a seven-year battle with breast cancer, Caron Keating died at 6.15pm last evening, surrounded by her family. A statement issued by her family described how she had fought her cancer with "enormous courage, tenacity and optimism," and said that her death had left an "unfilled void."

Paying tribute to her, Blue Peter Editor Richard Marson said, "Caron Keating was an immensely popular and successful member of the Blue Peter team.

"She stayed a part of the Blue Peter family after leaving the show and often came back for guest appearances and Blue Peter gatherings.

"Caron was an incredible person and a brilliant presenter and all the Blue Peter team send their deepest sympathy to her family and friends."

She leaves two young sons, Charlie and Gabriel, and husband Russ Lindsay.

Caron Keating followed her mother, Gloria Hunniford, into TV, presenting entertainment shows such as Holiday, This Morning and We Can Work It Out. She was possibly best known for her stint on much-loved children's programme Blue Peter, where she presented from 1986 to 1990, alongside Mark Curry and Yvette Fielding.

During her time on the show she proved herself game for anything - swimming with sharks and in freezing waterfalls and abseiling down cliffs and skyscrapers.

The Cult team would like to offer their condolences to Caron's friends and family.
