More 24 and Malcolm

Jack Bauer will return for a fourth series.

American network Fox has renewed its leading shows - including 24, Malcolm in the Middle, and The Simpsons.

24 is coming back for a fourth day. As Ann in the office has pointed out, soon they'll have enough for a week.

This is news that will gladden UK fans with Sky... and slightly madden those without. Jack Bauer will undoubtedly save the world again. And Kim Bauer will destroy downtown Los Angeles after an improbable accident with some nail polish and a nuclear reactor.

Meanwhile, Malcolm in the Middle is coming back for a sixth season. The show is as wonderful as ever, but Frankie Muniz is getting older and cooler in a way that's just plain wrong. It's like Charlotte Church growing up.

Also returning is The Simpsons. Although, with the cast still locked in pay negotiations, it looks likely to be a shorter season. And may feature a lot of mime.
