Brent Spiner to play Data's granddad, and Romulan film in works?

Speaking to fans at the Dallas Sci-Fi Expo last weekend, Marina Sirtis said that Data actor Brent Spiner might be appearing in up to three episodes of Enterprise.

According to a report on the Trek Today website, Brent will be playing the grandfather of Dr Noonien Soong, the scientist responsible for creating the android Data. Shooting on the episodes, said Sirtis, was due to start next month. Paramount has so far not confirmed the report.

Brent has played one of the Soongs before, during the Next Generation epsiode Brothers. So, they're obviously a family with very strong genes indeed.

Elsewhere, Trek executive producer Brannon Braga has revealed to Star Trek Communicator Magazine that the next Star Trek film could be a "prequel feature... regarding the Romulan Wars." Rick Berman confirmed that Trek XI would be set before The Original Series, but not during Enterprise.

The news has come as a surprise to many, mostly because it was believed that the poor performance of Star Trek: Nemesis might have killed off the Trek film franchise for good.
